TOWNSHIP 4, RANGE 8, Maine (AP) _ Conservationist Roxanne Quimby is buying thousands more acres of woodlands next to Baxter State Park in northern Maine.

Quimby's land company, Elliotsville Plantation Inc., is purchasing 8,315 acres in Township 4, Range 8 in Penobscot County. Terms aren't being disclosed.

The Bangor Daily News reported that Elliotsville Plantation will allow snowmobilers to continue using the land. The nonprofit also said it's opened another 14 miles of snowmobile trails on other property it owns in the region.

Quimby has bought large tracts of land in Maine since selling Burt's Bees cosmetics company, which she co-founded in the 1980 and sold last decade. She has drawn attention in recent years with her proposal to donate 70,000 acres of land for the creation of a national park.
