Wind Causes 30,000 Power Outages in Maine

Central Maine Power Co. said today that 28,600 outages had been reported, most of them in the York and Cumberland county areas.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Maine utilities say more than 30,000 electric customers are without service due to strong winds accompanying a storm that could also leave a couple of inches of rain.

Central Maine Power Co. said Friday that 28,600 outages had been reported. Most of them are in the York and Cumberland county areas.

CMP repair crews are getting assistance from Maine contractors providing additional line worker and tree removal crews.

Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. reports 1,588 outages, mostly in Hancock County.

The National Weather Service says couple of inches of rain are possible before most of the precipitation is finished Friday evening.

A wind warning is posted in some coastal counties and wind advisories are up in interior areas.
