PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The City Council this week approved a resolution directing the city manager to work with Lewiston and Auburn, the Maine Department of Transportation and other agencies to secure funding for a study and to work toward advancing the initiative.
Portland Mayor Michael Brennan said a commuter transit service linking the cities would reduce single-passenger car trips and enhance the quality of life and employment opportunities for area residents.
Portland is Maine's largest city and Lewiston, 40 miles to the north, is the second largest in the state.
