Lawyer Seeks Trial Delay in Kennebunk Prostitution Case

The Thomaston insurance agent charged in connection with the Zumba prostitution case in Kennebunk wants more time to prepare his defense. Mark Strong's lawyer filed a motion in York County Superior Court today to ask that the trial be postponed.

ALFRED, Maine — Attorney Daniel Lilley filed a motion Monday in York County Superior Court on behalf of Strong, a 57-year-old Thomaston resident who owns the Strong Insurance Agency in that town.

A clerk in the court confirmed to the Bangor Daily News that the motion had been filed that morning to postpone Strong’s trial, which was set to begin Jan. 22. A hearing with the defense and prosecution has been scheduled for Tuesday morning in Cumberland County Superior Court before Justice Nancy Mills.

Lilley stated in the motion that he wants a delay until at least Feb. 19 to allow the defense to fully prepare its case. He noted in the motion that the state turned over the final voluminous amount of evidence to the defense in early December.

Lilley stated in the motion that Assistant District Attorney Justina McGettigan opposes the continuance.

Strong is charged with 59 counts that include promotion of prostitution and invasion of privacy.

He is accused of conspiring with Alexis Wright, 29, to run a prostitution business out of her Kennebunk fitness studio. Both Strong and Wright have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Strong and Wright will be tried separately in the sprawling case, which has also included charges against more than 60 individuals accused of paying for sex at the studio. But the two are tied together in a lawsuit by the building’s landlord, who said Strong and Wright — both allegedly listed as tenants of the studio space — owe rent and property taxes.

Strong was arrested July 11 but has been free on bail since that day.
