Flood Warnings Issued for Several Maine Rivers
04/15/2014 12:08 PM ET

National Weather Service officials say several Maine communities are at risk of flooding as rivers swelled by a combination of rain and snow melt threaten to spill their banks.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for some Maine communities along rivers expected to swell above flood stage, as rain and snow melt converge.

A flood warning has been issued for the Piscataquis River above Dover-Foxcroft and near Medford. Warnings have also been issued for the Mattawamkeag River at Mattawamkeag, the Penobscot River at West Enfiend and Eddington, and the Big Black River near Big Black.

Flooding along the rivers is expected to be minor, weather officials say.

A flood warning indicates that flooding is likely, and that people should take steps to maintain safety. The entire state of Maine is under a flood watch, which means that weather conditions have created a significant risk for flooding.
