Ronald Brann of West Gardiner pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to stealing from the Maine Tourism Association.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ A former employee at an organization that promotes tourism in Maine has pleaded guilty to embezzling $116,000 from the group and using the money for personal expenses.

Ronald Brann of West Gardiner pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to stealing from the Maine Tourism Association.

Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Brann took the money while working as finance and human resources director for the association from 2010 to 2012. The association is a private, nonprofit with 1,600 member businesses.

The Kennebec Journal reports that he used the money to pay his mortgage, medical bills and ski and golf fees.

The embezzlement was discovered when Brann left to take another job.

Brann faces sentencing in 60 days, when he is expected to get about a year behind bars.
