That's according to figures released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ The federal government says more than 13,700 Mainers have picked plans under the Affordable Care Act health care exchange in the first three months of open enrollment.

The figures released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday show that nearly 12,000 Mainers signed up for health plans last month, almost seven times as many as the first two months.

More than 2 million people have signed up nationally.

Most of those signing up for coverage in Maine are older. The department says that 43 percent of those that have chosen plans are between ages 55 and 64.

At 55 percent, slightly more women have chosen plans than men in Maine. Eighty-seven percent are getting financial help to pay their monthly premium.
