GRAY, Maine (AP) _ The National Weather Service said snowfall topped 29 inches Saturday morning at the Portland International Jetport and snow was still coming down. That breaks the old storm record of 27.1 inches from 1979.
The wind gusted to 53 mph at the Portland airport and 68 mph at Matinicus Rock, 20 miles offshore.
State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said numerous vehicles, including several state police cruisers, are getting stuck in the deep snow. He said stranded drivers should expect long waits for tow trucks or other assistance.
