Concord, NH, Snowfall Second Biggest on Record
02/09/2013 2:55 PM ET

The massive snowstorm that walloped New Hampshire dumped two feet of snow on the capital city, but it wasn't enough to break the all-time record.

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) _ The National Weather Service said the snowfall tally in Concord reached 24 inches Saturday afternoon, good enough for the second-biggest snowfall on record.

The all-time record remains intact from the blizzard of 1888, when 27.5 inches of snow was recorded.

Wind remained a big concern, causing whiteout conditions. At one point, a gust of 74 mph was recorded at the Isle of Shoals off the New Hampshire coast.

In neighboring Vermont, Marlboro topped out at 17.3 inches of snow, while Springfield got 16 inches and South Royalton 16.5 inches.

The weather service said the heaviest totals were along the region's coast.
