Maine Senators to Visit Bath Iron Works Shipyard

Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King plan to tour the Navy contractor's yard and speak to workers there during their visit today.

BATH, Maine (AP) _ In their first public event together in Maine, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King are visiting Bath Iron Works.

Collins and King planned to tour the Navy contractor's yard and speak to workers there during their visit Thursday.

Both Collins, a Republican, and independent King, who is beginning his first term, hold seats on committees that oversee Maine's military interests. Collins is a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

During their visit to BIW, the two senators planned to express their intention to protect thousands of jobs of Mainers.

Collins and King also plan to visit the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery later in the day.
