Farmington Hospital to Cut up to 40 Jobs

Franklin Memorial Hospital President and CEO Rebecca Ryder says the staff reduction at the Farmington hospital is part of a plan designed to reduce expenses by $6 million by June.

FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) _ The chief executive of Franklin Memorial Hospital says the facility is cutting 35 to 40 positions to address a significant loss in revenue.

President and CEO Rebecca Ryder said Wednesday the staff reduction at the Farmington hospital is part of a plan designed to reduce expenses by $6 million by June.

She says 11 open positions will not be filled. The rest of the job cuts will be layoffs.

The Sun Journal reports that other moves include changes in health practices, including closing the Wilton Family Practice building and moving providers, and providing more efficient care.

She says while the state owes the hospital more than $15 million for care provided to MaineCare patients since 2009, payment would not solve the problem.

The hospital has more than 650 employees.
