Affidavit: Maine Man Posed as Homicide Victim
08/02/2013 02:17 PM ET

The state police affidavit was released Friday as 43-year-old William Morse of Trenton made his initial court appearance in Ellsworth on a murder charge.

TRENTON, Maine (AP) _ Court documents indicate a Maine man charged with murder withdrew money from the victim's bank account, drove his car and even posed as the victim after killing him between June and October of last year.

The state police affidavit was released Friday as 43-year-old William Morse of Trenton made his initial court appearance in Ellsworth. Afterward, Morse was returned to jail.

Nobody had reported 61-year-old Richard Bellitieri as missing after last being seen in June 2012. But Bar Harbor police noticed something was awry when they found Bellitieri's driver's license, credit cards and social security card with Morse during a drunken driving arrest in July.

Bellitieri's remains were found Sunday. An autopsy determined he'd been shot several times. Jail records didn't indicate whether Morse had hired an attorney.
