Maine Lawyer Improving after Polar Bear Attack
08/02/2013 04:24 PM ET

Matt Dyer's wife, Jeanne Wells, says her husband is improving rapidly and will soon have surgery to repair his broken jaw.

A Maine lawyer who was attacked by a polar bear while camping in Newfoundland is out of intensive care and "improving rapidly."

That's according to Matt Dyer's wife, Jeanne Wells, who says her husband is now facing surgery to repair a broken jaw.

Dyer was camping with a group in the Torngat National Park on the northern tip of Newfoundland when he was attacked by the bear as the group slept.

Dyer remains in a Montreal hospital. Wells says she's not yet sure whether her husband's surgery will take place there or "closer to home."

Dyer works for Pine Tree Legal Assistance.
