The grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs will be used to help cover renovation costs for the facility's heating units, patio and flooring.

SOUTH PARIS, Maine (AP) _ The State Veterans Home is getting a nearly $600,000 federal grant to make crucial renovations.

The grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs will be used to help cover renovation costs for the facility's heating units, patio and flooring.

Maine U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said in a joint statement that the state's veterans ``deserve nothing but the highest quality of care.'' The renovations will help the home maintain ``outstanding rehabilitative facilities'' central to its mission.

The 90-bed home was built in 1995 and is one of six multi-service veteran facilities in Maine.
