Raye Files for 2nd Congressional District Bid
09/13/2013 10:08 AM ET

Republican Kevin Raye lost two previous bids for the seat to Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud, who's leaving Congress to run for governor.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Former Maine Senate President Kevin Raye has filed his paperwork for his bid to fill the 2nd Congressional District Seat.

Raye, a Republican, said in a release on Thursday that it's crucial that the party nominate a candidate who will appeal broadly to Maine residents and has the ``ability to hit the ground running'' for the state.

Raye and his wife Karen own Raye's Mustard Mill in Easport. He lost two previous bids for the seat to Rep. Mike Michaud, who's leaving Congress to run for governor.

Raye will be challenged by Republican former state Treasurer Bruce Poliquin and former Navy officer Blaine Richardson of Belfast.

Democratic Sen. Emily Cain of Orono, Sen. Troy Jackson of Allagash and Alden Smith of Sangerville are also seeking to fill Michaud's seat.
