10/25/2013 03:58 PM ET

Authorities say Matt Grabowski, 30, was found near Stonington by a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Cape Cod, who relayed his postion to a Maine Marine Patrol vessel.

The U.S. Coast Guard says a missing kayaker is safe, and was found at about 1:15 this afternoon kayaking between between Stinson Neck and Sheep Island near Stongington.

Petty Officer Myeong Hi Clegg says 30-year-old Matt Grabowski missed his scheduled check-in call on Thursday. He was expected to be kayaking near Isle au Haut.

"While he was out, his cell phone battery had died, and he had not energized his VHF radio to make his scheduled check-in," she says. "But he was safe and sound, so it's good news all around."

Grabowski is on a several-day kayaking and camping trip. Clegg says he was found by a Coast Guard helicopter crew from Cape Cod, who relayed his postion to a Maine Marine Patrol vessel.
