Livermore Falls Decides to Remain in County
11/07/2013 10:06 AM ET

Town Manager Kristal Flagg says fear of paying more for Medicare services may have been the deciding factor in the close vote.

LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine (AP) _ Livermore Falls residents have decided they would rather remain a part of Androscoggin County than join Franklin County.

Town Manager Kristal Flagg says fear of paying more for Medicare services may have been the deciding factor in the close vote.

The measure to change counties lost at Tuesday's election 263-257.

Flagg tells the Kennebec Journal some senior citizens learned from insurance providers that they could be paying more under the options offered in Franklin County. She said a plan under which seniors pay no premium in Androscoggin County comes with a $54 monthly premium fee in Franklin County.

Supporters of the measure said changing counties would save the town money.

Flagg says unless someone requests a recount, she considers the matter closed.
