Selectmen in the town of Carrabassett Valley have endorsed a plan aimed at annexing part of Redington Township to make way for a wind farm, according the Lewiston Sun Journal. The selectmen voted Monday to ask the state Legislature pass a measure that would allow the town to annex the upper portion of the Township, if local voters approve. Endless Energy Corporation of Yarmouth wants to build a 30-turbine wind farm in that portion of Redington Township, but the project failed to win approval from the state's Land Use Regulation Commission, which currently has zoning jurisdiction over the area. The annexation would allow Carrabassett Valley voters to weigh in on the project, which supporters say would provide low cost energy for the region's ski resorts.
