Maine is one of several states that don't allow soldiers deployed overseas enough time to vote. That's according a Pew Center on the States study, which concluded that 16 states, including Maine, send out absentee ballots too late for military voters to receive them and get them back in time. The Pew Center says many states can solve the problem simply by sending ballots out sooner or transmitting them electronically. According to the study, Maine allows ballots to be transmitted electronically only under special circumstances.
