Maine is one of 34 states that have settled with Dell, Inc. and its subsidiary Dell Financial Services over the company's financing promotions, rebate offers, technical support and warranty service. Maine Attorney General Janet Mills says the settlement provides $1.5 million to eligible consumers who file claims by April 13. Mills says the company and its subsidiary have "taken unfair advantage of Maine consumers," by using "deceptive financing and rebate offers as enticements to buy, then they fail to fulfill warranty obligations." As part of the settlement, Dell has agreed to modify its advertising promotions and provide adequate consumer information about its financing and rebate offers, and to fulfill its warranty obligations within 30 days of being notified of a problem.
