The annual disappearance of Maine's winter snowpack is usually followed by a proliferation of door-to-door lawn and driveway paving scammers, and this year is no exception. Maine's Department of Professional and Financial Regulation has issued a warning after receiving complaints from people in the Waterville area.
The agency is urging consumers to check the license status of any door-to-door salespeople, and to report concerns or possible law violations to local police and the Maine Attorney General's Office.
Door-to-door sellers are typically required to be licensed, as are transient merchandise sellers without a permanent Maine address. Officials say information about licenses can be found online at the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, or by calling 207-624-8624.
