Bangor TV News Crew Member Injured in Katahdin Fall
07/15/2010 04:38 PM ET

A member of a WLBZ-TV news crew on assignment was injured when he fell 10 to 12 feet on Mt. Katahdin's Knife Edge Trail.

A member of a Bangor TV news crew on assignment in Baxter State Park was rescued today after falling 10 to 12 feet on Mt. Katahdin's Knife Edge Trail.

Dan Frye, one of three members of a WLBZ-TV news crew hiking the trail, sustained head and torso injuries in the fall, park authorities say. Frye was evacuated by a Maine Army National Guard Blackhawk medivac helicopter at about 2:30 this afternoon and taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital.

Park officials say the rescue was facilitated by good weather and the availability of the 126th National Guard Medivac Unit. Park Director Jensen Bissell says hiking on Katahdin is challenging and hikers should prepare carefully.
