Laura Stevens from the Toxic Action Center, staged a press conference in downtown Portland this morning to gather support for a statewide ban on BPA.
The latest report, she says, is a compilation of scientific studies published between January and July this year.
"There's an expansive field of scientific research on BPA and its health impacts
and this report includes 81 of the studies published this year," Stevens said.
75 of those studies, she says, indicate a number of adverse health impacts associated with exposure to the chemical.
Those health impacts, she says, include early on-set puberty, diabetes, developmental problems, heart disease and cetain types of cancer.
The Maine Board of Environmental Protection is holding a public hearing next week on Thursday in Augusta, to discuss a proposed ban on certain products containing BPA.
