Two More Senate Candidates File Petitions in Maine
03/15/2012 11:22 AM ET

Democrat Matthew Dunlap and Republican Debra Plowman filed petitions yesterday in the race to capture the seat being vacated by Sen. Olympia Snowe.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) _ Two more Senate candidates--a Republican and a Democrat--have filed petitions to appear on the primary ballot in Maine.

Democrat Matthew Dunlap, former secretary of state, and Republican Debra Plowman, a state senator, filed their petitions Wednesday.

That brings to four the number of Republicans seeking to fill the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Maine Republican Olympia Snowe. Four Democrats have expressed interest, but only Dunlap has filed his petitions.

Candidates face a deadline of Thursday for submitting petitions to the secretary of state, which is responsible for verifying the signatures.
