Maine Heating Oil Prices Drop Slightly
11/19/2012 04:39 PM ET

The statewide average cash price for No. 2 heating oil now stands at $3.64 a gallon, a penny lower than last week, and slightly lower than the cost of heating oil a year ago.

Maine heating oil consumers spent an average of a penny less a gallon this past week. That's according to the Governor's Energy Office's weekly survey, which found that the statewide average cash price for a gallon of No. 2 heating oil now stands at $3.64 a gallon.

Today's prices are slightly lower than the cost of heating oil a year ago. But state officials warn that the trend might not continue because the growing conflict in the Middle East has been pushing crude oil prices up.

For now, though, the survey finds heating oil prices in Maine ranging from a low of $3.30 a gallon in eastern and western Maine, to a high of $3.86 a gallon in eastern Maine.

Kerosene is currently selling for an average of $4.09 a gallon, unchanged from last week, while propane, used in quantities for heating, is selling for $2.73, down five cents.
