Maine Unemployment Rate Drops Slightly
11/20/2012 10:43 AM ET

The rate is down slightly from September, but remains a bit higher than the rate recorded a year ago.

Maine's unemployment rate fell slightly in October to 7.4 percent. That's down from 7.6 percent in September, according to state labor officials, but slightly higher than the 7.3 percent rate recorded a year ago.

State officials say 52,700 Mainer's remain unemployed, up about 1,500 over the year.

But Maine's unemployment rate remains below the national average of 7.9 percent, and is the same as the average rate recorded for New England in October.

Among New England states, Vermont had the lowest unemployment rate, 5.5 percent, while Rhode Island recorded the highest of 10.4 percent.
