Collins Leaves Homeland Security Committee for Intelligence

The Maine Republican learned today that she'll move to the Intelligence Committee, on which departing Sen. Olympia Snowe had served.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ The era of Sens. Susan Collins and Joseph Lieberman leading the Homeland Security Committee is over. Lieberman left the Senate and Collins has moved to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

The Maine Republican learned today that she'll move to the Intelligence Committee, on which departing Sen. Olympia Snowe had served. Republican caucus rules prevented her from serving another term on homeland security, which she'd served on since its creation, along with Lieberman, of Connecticut.

Collins is giving up her seat on the Armed Services Committee to make way for Sen. Angus King. Collins had received special waivers to remain on the panel, but now feels comfortable leaving because Maine will continue to be represented.

Collins continues to serve on the Appropriations Committee and Special Committee on Aging.
