King Sworn in as New Congress Convenes

The independent former governor was elected in November to fill the seat being vacated by longtime Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe.

Maine's new senator, Angus King, was sworn in today, as the newly-elected Congress began business.

The independent former governor was elected in November to fill the seat being vacated by longtime Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe.

Sen. Susan Collins escorted King to the Senate floor for the swearing-in ceremony. The two then greeted Maine supporters during a reception at the capitol.

King is one of 12 newly elected senators - and the only independent. He will caucus with the Democrats.
