Maine Gasoline Prices Down
03/25/2013 11:32 AM ET

But price-monitoring Web site says the average price of gas in Maine is still above the national average.

Price-monitoring Web site reports today that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas in Maine has dropped to $3.73 in the past week, 9 cents above the national average.

Maine prices are now 13 cents per gallon lower than at the same time last year, and almost 12 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.

GasBuddy Senior Analyst Greg Laskoski says price drop comes as a surprise. He says the company would expect gas prices to continue increasing steadily as refineries make the transition to from winter blend to summer blend gasoline.

Laskoski say that transition is going pretty well. "Based on the price data that we're looking at, I would say that product supply exceeds consumer demand right now," he says.

Laskoski says he expect prices to start heading back up in mid-April. He says consumer demand tends to to increase as warmer weather approaches.
