David Greene, a University of Chicago administrator, will take office on July 1 as Colby College's 20th president.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) _ Maine's Colby College is tapping a University of Chicago administrator to serve as the 20th president of the 200-year-old private liberal arts college.

David Greene, who was introduced Tuesday, will take office on July 1. Trustees Chairman Robert Diamond called him ``the ideal person to usher Colby into its third century.''

Greene currently serves as University of Chicago's executive vice president, playing a role in a faculty expansion, financial aid initiatives, a civic engagement plan, new academic centers and infrastructure investments.

Greene will succeed William Adams, Colby's president since 2000.

Under his tenure, Colby's academic program has grown, the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement was founded, and a new center for the arts and humanities opened.
