Michaud: "No" on Unilateral Military Intervention in Syria
09/10/2013 03:45 PM ET

Maine's 2nd District Democratic congressman says he would vote "no" on unilateral military intervention, and is hopeful that a diplomatic solution can be found.

Maine 2nd District Rep. Mike Michaud says if he had to vote today on unilateral military intervention in Syria, he would vote "no."

In a statement, Michaud says he doesn't think the case has been made for such action.

"Based on the information I've now had a chance to see, I am not convinced that we should take military action," he says. "In addition, I have heard from thousands of Mainers who have told me they do not want to get embroiled in another war in the Middle East."

Michaud, a Democrat who is running for governor, says he's attended classified briefings and spent the past week evaluating the implications of a military strike.

He says he's encouraged by talk of a diplomatic solution to the crisis, and is hopeful that it can be resolved without the use of military force.
