Disciplinary measures imposed on a Roman Catholic priest who admitted to sexual improprieties have been confirmed by the Vatican. The measures were imposed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland on Michael Doucette, who served as a priest in several cities and towns in Maine between 1975 and 2001.
Doucette will be allowed to remain a priest, but he can't have any public ministry or present himself as a priest or wear clerical garb.
The Diocese says Doucette has been out of the ministry since 2002. Doucette was removed from ministry twice, once in 1991 after a victim came forward claiming to have been abused in the early 1980s. He was sent for treatment and reinstated in 1992, but removed again in 2002 after another person complained of improper sexual advances that had occurred before Doucette treatment in 1991.
Doucette served as a priest in several parishes, most of them in northern Maine. They include:
