Four Rescued After Boat Capsizes on Moosehead Lake
10/27/2009 03:54 PM ET

The four were in a pontoon boat, which was swamped by a wave.

Four men were rescued from Moosehead Lake this morning after their pontoon boat capsized. The Maine Warden Service says strong winds whipped up 5- to 6-foot swells on the lake and one swell swamped the boat, dumping the men into rough, choppy waters off the Rockwood and Kineo boat landing. Authorities say the boat's right pontoon was already taking on water when it was swamped.

The four rescued men are identified as Stuart Orff, 50, the boat's owner, Nathaniel Bates, 26, and Carl Butler, 32, all of Abbott, and Frederick McAffee, 59, of Dover-Foxcroft. Authorities say the four were able to hold onto the pontoons until rescuers arrived.

All men were cold, but unharmed when they were found, authorities say.
