The building that housed the Lincoln News, the weekly paper in that Penobscot County community, has been destroyed by fire. Authorities told MPBN that the fire appears to have broken out in the rear of the building around 8 o'clock last night.
About 50 firefighters from the area responded and were able to knock the flames down by around midnight. But by then, the building was a total loss.
Officials say the publisher did have insurance, but the publisher has, so far, declined to confirm that. The state fire marshal is investigating the blaze, but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious. They told MPBN they suspect a furnace malfunction might have led to the blaze. No injuries were reported.
