Advocacy Ads on Health Care Not Effective in Maine, Collins Says
11/13/2009 12:42 PM ET

Collins says she doesn't think Mainers are influenced by the flood of advocacy ads pushing for or against health care reform.

As advocacy groups ramp up TV ads about health care reform, Maine Sen. Susan Collins says the ads don't work in Maine. The ads urge Mainers to call their congressional delegation and lobby them to vote one way or another on health care reform legislation. Collins says while the ads work in some states, she doesn't think they're effective in Maine.

"I don't think the members of the delegation, nor the people of Maine, are influenced by political ads that are run by out-of-state groups advocating positions," Collins told Capitol News Service. "We saw that when I was up for reelection last year when a lot of groups were running attack ads against me."

Collins says all of the delegation members are working toward the same goal, improving the nation's health care system, even if they disagree on how to go about doing that.
