The price of heating oil in Maine jumped seven cents a gallon last week, for the second week in a row. That's according to the Governor's Office of Energy Independence and Security, whose weekly survey finds that the statewide average cash price of No. 2 heating oil now stands at $2.67 a gallon.
"Noticeably colder weather in the U.S. together with strengthening economic indicators continue to place upward price pressure on oil, says OEIS Director John Kerry in a statement.
Actual prices vary widely across the state, with the lowest price -- $2.48 a gallon -- found in southwest Maine, and the highest price -- $2.90 a gallon -- in the eastern region.
Kerosene is selling for a statewide average price of $3.01, and propane, based on a use of 600 gallons a year, at $2.79 a gallon.
