11/19/2009 11:26 AM ET

The 2.5 magnitude quake shook the area early this morning, but didn't stir up much concern.

The New England Seismic Network at Boston College's Weston Observatory saya small earthquake was recorded in western Maine early this morning.

The observatory's seismographs recorded a quake of about 2.5 in magnitude at about 2 a.m. this morning, centered about 7 miles northwest of Rumford.

The quake appears to have gone largely unnoticed -- Rumford police told the Associated Press that they didn't get any calls from residents about the quake.
