Authorities say speed and black ice appear to have contributed to the accident, which claimed the life of Kori Ellis, 43, of Mapleton.

A Malpleton woman is dead after losing control of her vehicle in New Sweden and crashing into a tree. Maine State Police says Kori Ellis, 43, was driving northbound on Route 161 in New Sweden yesterday morning when she lost control of her 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Authorities say Ellis had just passed another northbound vehicle on the road at around 8:15 a.m. She lost control when she tried to enter back into her driving lane.

Investigators say speed and black ice appear to have contributed to the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
