| For runners, the spring racing season is right around the corner. And for sports medicine physician James Glazer, that means being mindful of heatstroke. Glazer, who practices in Freeport and is an assistant clinical professor at Tufts University, edits the national heatstroke recommendations for groups such as the American College of Physicians, and has been studying how to best to prevent and treat the condition. |

Glazer says heatstroke is a risk whenever athletes are exercising in weather that they're not used to. So that includes Maine runners traveling to races in warmer states --- or even racing in Maine on a day that's warmer than preceding days.
Glazer's findings were published this month in the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, and he'll be presenting them to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine next month.
