Swearing in 1

We're going to introduce you now to four legislators with one thing in common: None has ever served in the Legislature before.

"Hello, my name is Tim Marks. I'm the District 53 representative from Pittston, Dresden, Alna, Wiscasset."

"Hi. I'm Christine Powers (left, with her mother, displaying her legislative license plate). I'm a new state representative from Naples, serving Naples, Casco and part of Poland.

"My name is Carol McElwee, and I'm from Caribou, Maine, and this is District 4 that I represent. And that's in Aroostook County."

"I'm Jim Boyle. I represent the voters of Gorham, Scarborough, part of Westbrook - it's Senate District 6."

McElwee is a Republican, Marks, Powers and Boyle Democrats. There'll be time later for them to stand-up and be counted in possibly partisan struggles over budget, tax and other bills. Instead, we'll hear them talk, today and tomorrow, about their first impressions as they join the ranks of lawmakers.

We'll hear more from the new lawmakers Thursday, Dec. 13, on Morning Edition.
