Bucksport Town Manager to Staff: Prepare for Budget Cuts, Tax Hikes
03/29/2013   Reported By: Tom Porter

The town manager of Bucksport is preparing for a tough year. Michael Brennan - not to be confused with the mayor of Portland who has the same name - has instructed municipal department heads in the Hancock County mill town to cut their 2014 budget requests by 15 percent. He's also warning citizens to prepare for a tax increase. It's all part of Brennan's effort to absorb expected reductions in state funding over the next two years - a result of Gov. Paul LePage's proposed budget. Maine Things Considered host Tom Porter speaks with Michael Brennan, as part of our ongoing series of talks wtih municipal leaders around the state.

The coastal town of Bucksport prepares for budget cuts in the wake of expected state funding reductions.

Maine Things Considered host Tom Porter talks with Bucksport town manager Michael Brennan. Brennan says if the municipal budget does end up being cut by 15 percent, about a dozen positions at the town would have to be eliminated when the next budget cycle starts in July.
