Jury Acquits Matinicus Lobsterman
03/12/2010 4:40 PM ET

A Knox County Superior Court jury today found Vance Bunker not guilty of charges he faced in connection with the shooting of a fellow lobsterman on Matinicus Island last summer.

A Knox County Superior Court jury has acquitted a Matinicus lobsterman and his daughter on all charges in connection with the July shooting of a fellow lobsterman.

At about 5 o'clock this afternoon, after about 10 hours of deliberations yesterday and today, the 12-member jury found Vance Bunker not guilty on the four counts against him, including the most serious charge of elevated aggravated assault.

Bunker had been charged in connection with the shooting of lobsterman Chris Young on Matinicus in the midst of a dispute over fishing territory.  Bunker claimed he acted in defense of himself and his daughter in the incident.

Bunker's daughter, Janan Miller, was also found not guilty on a charge of reckless conduct in connection with the shooting.
