Mapleton Rep to Run for Maine's 2nd District Seat

Mapleton Republican Alexander Willette, 24, currently serves as the assistant minority leader in the Maine House, where he's serving his second term.

Mapleton Republican Rep. Alexander Willette says he's filed papers to become a candidate for Maine's 2nd District congressional seat.

Willette, 24, currently serves as the assistant minority leader in the Maine House, where he's serving his second term. He works for his family's real estate business, called Big Bear Real Estate.

In a press release, Willette says he'll focus his campaign on creating jobs and cutting wasteful spending.

Maine's current 2nd District seat-holder, Democrat Mike Michaud, is gearing up for a run for the Democratic nomination for governor.

On the Democratic side, Sen. Emily Cain, of Penobscot Couty, and Sen. Troy Jackson, of Aroostook County, have announced their intentions to compete for the 2nd District congressional seat.
