Maine Warns of Poor Air Quality as Heat and Humidity Move In
08/20/2013 03:36 PM ET

Air quality is expected to be unhealthy tomorrow along some parts of the Maine coast, and along the entire coast on Thursday, state officials say.

Maine officials say ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach unhealthy levels along parts of the coast tomorrow, and along the entire coastline on Thursday.

Tomorrow, the heat and humidity are expected to create unhealthy air conditions along the southwest coast and in the mid-coast region. In interior regions, ozone concentrations are expected to be moderate tomorrow and possibly into Thursday.

High ozone can cause reduced lung function and irritation in children, health adults who exert themselves and those suffering from respiratory diseases, such as asthma. Maine officials are advising people to reduce strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon and avoid using aerosol products such as cleaners, paints and other lung irritants.
