Federal and county officials say the plane went down in the Kennebec River shortly before 3 p.m. in Bingham, but no one was injured.

BINGHAM, Maine (AP) _ Officials say two people aboard a small plane escaped injury when it crashed into a river in a small town in Maine.

Federal and county officials say the plane went down in the Kennebec River shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday near Main Street in Bingham.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it was a small plane and wasn't a commercial aircraft.

The Bingham Fire Department, Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police also responded to the crash.

Warden spokesman Doug Rafferty says two people were on board but neither was injured.

Bingham is in central Maine about 100 miles north of Portland.
