Summer Driving Is in Full-swing as Gas Prices Rise in Maine
07/15/2013 4:10 PM ET

The price of gasoline in Maine has shot up in the past week.

Gasbuddy.com senior analyst Greg Laskoski said the statewide average gasoline price in Maine today is $3.70 per gallon. That's up $0.17 in the past week. Laskoski said prices are up across the nation, but the northeast and the Great Lakes region are seeing the biggest jumps because there are fewer options available to access fuel.

"If we look at the Gulf Coast in the Southeastern U.S., for instance, we can access fuel by trucks, by tanker and by pipeline," said Laskoski. "In the northeast we have fewer pipelines available getting into those markets. same thing in the great lakes region."

Laskoski said demand is up nationwide, historically something that happens in July and inventories have declined, somewhat.
