Question 5 on the November 3, 2009 ballot features “An Act to Establish the Maine Medical Marijuana Act,” which asks voters ”do you want to change the medical marijuana laws to allow treatment of more medical conditions and to create a regulated system of distribution?”
Joining Susan in the studio to talk about Question 5 were Jonathan Leavitt of the group Maine Citizens for Patients' Rights which is backing this referendum and Roy McKinney of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency who spoke on behalf of the Maine Dept of Public Safety.
Also joining in by phone were Dr. John Woytowicz, a family practitioner from Augusta who authorizes medical marijuana for his patients; Charlie Wynott, an HIV patient who has used medical marijuana for many years; and Dr Dora Ann Mills, Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
In addition to the guests on both sides of this issue Susan featured phone calls from listeners as well as e-mails from the audience.
