TABOR 2 Campaign Asks for Probe of Legislative Leaders
10/26/2009 11:44 AM ET

The campaign accuses Senate President Elizabeth Mitchell and House Speaker Hannah Pingree, both Democrats, of using legislative resources to fight Question 4, as well as Question 2, which would cut excise taxes.

The campaign seeking to impose tax and spending limits in Maine is asking the state's attorney General to investigate election activities by two legislative leaders.

The TABOR 2 campaign says it has obtained documents that show that the legislative offices of Senate President Elizabeth Mitchell and House Speaker Hanna Pingree used legislative resources and staff time to fight Question 4, as well as Question 2, which would slash excise taxes in Maine.

Both questions are on the November 3rd ballot. Maine's Attorney General Janet Mills has not yet said whether her office will investigate the allegations.
