The poll found gay marriage repeal opponents ahead by a margin of 51.8 to 42.9.

A majority of Mainers in a new poll say they're ready to uphold the state's new gay marriage law by voting "no" on the people's veto referendum question.

The poll, conducted by Pan Atlantic S-M-S group of Portland, found 51.8 percent of likely voters saying they'll support gay marriage by voting "no," while 42.9 percent say they'd reject the same-sex marriage law by voting "yes."

The poll found support for "TABOR-2," the tax-and-spending limitation proposal by a margin of 49.1 percent to 37.7 percent.  Question 2, cutting the excise tax, and Question 3, repealing school consolidation, had narrow spreads that were within the poll's margin of error of 4.9 percent.
