Democrats Prevail in Maine House Contest Recounts
11/19/2012 04:23 PM ET

Recounts in close races in Maine House Districts 45 and 137 have upheld the wins of the two Democratic candidates.

Democrats have prevailed in two more recounts done in close Maine legislative races. Secretary of State Charlie Summers says a recount in House District 45 determined that Brian Jones, of Freedom, beat R. Ryan Harmon, a Palerno Republican, by 32 votes.

The Democratic candidate in House District 137 also maintained a slim lead in a recount in that race. Summers says Alan Casavant of Biddeford bested Republican William Guay, of Kennebunkport, by a mere 15 votes.

Recounts have been done or scheduled on 14 close legislative races in Maine. Nine have now been completed, and five remain. The remaining races are scheduled for recounts on Nov. 20 and Nov. 26.
